Scholarships for International Undergraduate Students

For the 2010-2011 Academic Year

We invite you to consider the many funding opportunities available for international students at IUPUI.

You must start your studies in the fall semester as a beginning freshman. All of the scholarships described on these pages require students to be enrolled on a full-time basis (12 credit hours or more per semester) in the fall and spring semesters.

If you take the SAT or ACT examination more than once, the highest scores will be used for scholarship consideration.

Funds provided by these scholarships do not cover intensive English as a Second Language study.

COMPETITIVE SCHOLARSHIPS

Bepko Scholars and Fellows Program Scholarship & Admission Application Deadline: December 1

Provides: funding which covers the in-state portion of tuition, fees, books for four years of study, two years of on-campus housing, and up to $5,000 per year for four years of graduate or professional study at IUPUI.

This highly competitive program provides financial, academic, and programming support to academically motivated and civically engaged students throughout their undergraduate and post-graduate years. Criteria: excellent SAT or ACT scores (applicants for whom English is not their native language should also submit TOEFL results), outstanding performance in a rigorous college-preparatory curriculum, and extensive civic engagement endeavors are required. Finalists for the award must also complete an interview as the final step of the application process. (Note: students residing outside Indiana will be interviewed by phone.) Plater Distinguished Scholars Program Scholarship & Admission Application Deadline: December 1

Provides: $8,000 per year for four years of study, partial funding for one study abroad experience, and a partial housing stipend for living in International House during the freshman year.

This highly competitive scholarship is available to exceptional incoming freshmen who are committed to combining academic excellence with global citizenship. Plater Scholars are involved in international programming both on and off-campus. Criteria: minimum GPA of 3.75 or higher (or its recognized equivalent) on a 4.0 scale, excellent SAT or ACT examination results (applicants for whom English is not their native language should also submit TOEFL results). Finalists for the award must also complete an interview as the last step of the application process. (Note: students residing outside Indiana will be interviewed by phone.) ADMISSION-BASED SCHOLARSHIPS

Students may receive only one of the following five scholarships.Submit your complete application for admission by February 1. A separate scholarship application is not required.

These scholarships are available to beginning freshmen who will pay non-resident fees at IUPUI. If you are eligible to pay tuition at the in-state rate, visit http://www.iupui.edu/~scentral for information on scholarship opportunities for students paying fees at resident rates.

Valedictorian and Salutatorian Scholarships

$10,000 annually for 4 years Students who are ranked first or second in their class in secondary school may qualify for this scholarship. To be considered for renewal, students must maintain a 3.3 GPA.

Outstanding Freshman Scholarship

$8,000 annually for 4 years Students who have a minimum high school GPA of 3.75 (on a 4.0 scale) with a minimum 1250 SAT (total represents Critical Reading and Math scores only; international students from non-English speaking countries must have a minimum SAT Math score of 625) or a 27 ACT composite score may be eligible for this scholarship. To be considered for renewal, students must maintain a 3.2 GPA.

Dean’s Recognition Scholarship

$6,000 annually for 4 years Students who have a minimum high school GPA of 3.5 (on a 4.0 scale) and who score 1150 or higher on the SAT (total represents Critical Reading and Math scores only; international students from non-English speaking countries must have a minimum SAT Math score of 575) or 25 on the ACT may be eligible for this scholarship. To be considered for renewal, students must maintain a 3.0 GPA.

IUPUI Service Award

$2,000 - 4,000 annually for 4 years Students who have a minimum high school GPA of 3.25 (on a 4.0 scale) or at least a 550 SAT Math score may be eligible for this scholarship. Likely candidates are reviewed on an individual basis with particular attention paid to academic curriculum and standardized test scores. Recipients must volunteer for 20 hours of service at IUPUI events annually. To be considered for renewal, students must maintain a 3.0 GPA.

International Ambassador Award

$3,500 renewable up to 4 years To be eligible for consideration, international students must be admitted as beginning freshmen by May 1st for the fall semester and submit one of the following: a minimum TOEFL score of 80, a minimum SAT Critical Reading Score of 450, or an IELTS score of 6.0, may be eligible for this award. Recipients must volunteer annually for 15 hours of service at IUPUI events that have an international theme. To be considered for renewal, students must maintain a 3.0 GPA.

ADDITIONAL SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

These awards may be added to one of the admission-based scholarship opportunities listed above.

IUPUI Housing Stipend

$2,500 one-time award
Non-resident students who are eligible for one of the above awards, who submit a housing application by April 1st, and upon submission of the housing contract by the specified date will receive this one-time housing stipend. Please note that housing fills quickly and applying by April 1 does not guarantee housing on campus. Students are strongly encouraged to apply for housing early. IUPUI Study Abroad Stipend

$2,500 one-time award

Students who meet the Valedictorian/Salutatorian or Outstanding Freshman criteria may also be considered for a one-time study abroad stipend.

Scholarships for Transfer Students (with a Postsecondary Study Record)

  • To be considered for a transfer scholarship, submit your complete application for admission by October 1 for January admission, or March 1 for Fall admission.
Nonresident Transfer Scholar Award

$5,000 annually
Students who have a postsecondary study record at an officially recognized university with earned GPA of 3.3 or higher. To be considered for renewal, students must maintain a 3.0 GPA.

ELS Transfer Ambassador Award

$3,500 annually for 2 years
Students who successfully complete Level 112 at ELS Language Centers may be eligible for this award. Recipients must volunteer for 15 hours of service at IUPUI events annually. To be considered for renewal, students must maintain a 3.0 GPA.

Honors Scholarship for Transfer and Continuing Students

$1,500/ $750 part-time
The IUPUI Continuing Student Honors Scholarship is a one-year scholarship primarily for students participating in the Honors College, although students who are not in the Honors College, but have taken honors courses, are also eligible to apply. All applicants must have completed at least 12 credit hours with at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA. Applications are available in the IUPUI Honors College office, University College, room 3140.
