Step 2: Determine Your Level

The U.S. education system is comprised of 12 years of primary and secondary education followed by 4 years of post-secondary, or undergraduate study-toward a bachelor's degree-before a student becomes eligible for graduate level study in a master's, doctoral, or professional program.

  • If you have completed the entire (primary/secondary) university preparatory sequence in the country where you studied or are scheduled to complete this schooling and you have not attended a university or college or other postsecondary institution since graduation from high school (excluding summer attendance immediately following high school graduation).

• Are You a Transfer Student?

  • You are a Transfer Student If:

    • You have attended a university or postsecondary institution after graduating from high school (secondary school)
    • You have not received a bachelor's degree (first degree), or
    • You wish to pursue a second bachelor's degree in a different discipline

    I have completed courses from a university outside of the U.S.
    I have completed courses from a university in the U.S.

• Are You a Returning IUPUI Student?

  • If you have previously attended IUPUI, but did not finish an undergraduate degree, you do not need to complete a new application.

    Instead, please visit our returning student web page to update your records.

    Students who have not been enrolled in classes for less than one academic semester should consult their academic advisor to return to the university instead of completing the returning student application.

• Graduate Students

  • Admission into graduate programs at IUPUI is decentralized, and handled by each academic department or school. Steps for applying to an IUPUI graduate program can be found at: http://www.iupui.edu/~gradoff/admissions/apply.html.
